CHAPTER FIVE
Jagger chuckled. He’d never expected to change his mind about the holiday. Never. But the more time he spent with Michael, the more he could see a future and the bright side of the day. He wanted Christmas to come around again and again so they could spend time together.
“You never did answer me.” Michael cradled Jagger to his chest. “It’s almost Christmas day.”
“Yeah, I know.” Jagger sighed. He picked up the glass ornament from the nightstand. “If I tell you, it’s almost a guarantee you’re going to leave.”
“Nah.” Well, maybe. But his leaving had nothing to do with Jagger. He’d already done enough to get him thrown out of Heaven. A few hours and a little more exploration weren’t going to help him much. “Talk. Let’s make this a Christmas to heal. It’s frosty outside and this is the perfect time to unburden yourself while we heat things up. You’ve got my full attention.”
Jagger propped himself up on his elbow and smiled. “Sounds like a great idea.” He spread his hand out on Michael’s chest. He’d never seen anyone so perfect or unmarked in his life. Everyone had some sort of scars. Jagger’s were just internal. He wondered where Michael’s scars were and what made him tick. Michael was so easy to talk to and so understanding. First, he wanted to get a few things off his chest and show Michael the darker sides of him. If Michael could handle the scars, then maybe the future was possible.
“Ten years ago on Christmas, my grandmother asked me if I was gay. I hadn’t come out yet—I was only fifteen and still not totally sure of my sexuality. She took me aside and asked me quietly. I said I thought I might be, but I wasn’t ready to tell anyone. She hugged me and said when I was ready, do what I needed to. She also told me she was my biggest supporter. By the time I was seventeen and sure, she’d died. I never got to tell her the truth. She died the day before Christmas.” He exhaled. The more he talked, telling the truth became easier and more comfortable.
“I’m sure she knows, and is proud,” Michael said.
Jagger traced the line of Michael’s abs with his index finger. Was it too early in their burgeoning relationship to tell Michael he believed in angels and swore his grandmother kept an eye on him? Probably. Still, he knew she’d watched over him and helped him along his way. But most guys would think he was crazy for even considering the possibility that angels were real.
“She’s the only reason I even try to celebrate Christmas. She loved the holidays and getting the family together.” Jagger flopped onto his back. “When she passed, I found out just what kind of dicks I’d grown up with. My uncle only wanted her money. My aunt wanted her antiques and none of them approved of my…” He hooked his fingers in the air, “lifestyle. My uncle told me if I stopped playing with my pud, then I’d be straight.
